TRUE Story

I was experiencing gastro-intestinal issues, which didn't improve even after visiting several gastroenterologists. I decided to visit a Naturopathic physician. Dr Familoni put me on a gut balancing protocol and I can now say that my digestive problems are a thing of the past. If I ever needed a doctor again for this kind of issue I would want to see her first. Thanks Dr. Familoni!

The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

  1. First Do No Harm
  2. Identify and Treat the Cause
  3. Treat the Whole Person
  4. The Body Has Inherent Wisdom to Heal
  5. Doctor Means Teacher
  6. Prevention is Cure

What Makes Naturopathic Doctors Different from “Conventional” Doctors?

Naturopathic doctors, (also know as Naturopathic physicians), go beyond most of today’s modern allopathic or “conventional medicine” which is focused on symptom management rather than the addressing the cause. Common ailments such as high blood pressure, headaches, high cholesterol and others are not diseases; they are symptoms of an underlying disease process. No question allopathic medicine is valuable and can save lives (particularly in trauma and emergency cases), however they never address the true underlying health problem.

We understand that symptoms are the body’s early warning signs that something is wrong. Sometimes these symptoms need to be controlled immediately or they can be life threatening, but often medication is only a quick fix that stops short of removing the disease process. Pharmaceuticals can suppress symptoms, but the disease process is still present and the body’s warning signs continue to be ignored. Naturopathic medicine strives not only to remove the symptoms but also to stop the disease process and restore full health.

Our role in this process is not only that of a doctor but that of a teacher, a coach, a counselor; we will engage you to work with us in the pursuit of health. To us the goal of Naturopathic medicine is to facilitate a journey of lifelong health by nurturing and supporting your self-healing mechanisms.

To treat numerous conditions, both chronic and acute, Naturopathy uses various modalities such as:

  • Western and Chinese Botanical medicine
  • Homeopathy
  • Botanical medicine
  • Supplements
  • Acupuncture
  • Detox protocols
  • Stress reduction techniques
  • Clinical nutrition & nutritional counseling
  • Tuina Massage therapy
  • Neuro-muscular technique (NMT)
  • Psychotherapy and counseling
  • Soft tissue manipulation
  • Cranial Sacral therapy
  • Bowen technique
  • Weight loss protocols

Dr. Dami Familoni

Dr. Damilola Familoni, NMD, MHA, M.S.Ac (Acupuncture), M.S. (Nutrition) Dami is a Naturopathic Medical Doctor, Health Administrator, Acupuncturist and Nutritionist. She worked at the Maryland Department of Health and Mental hygiene where she did research that focused on chronic diseases. The conclusion of her research cumulated into a manual that serves as a resource used by health departments to reduce health professional shortage areas and healthcare costs in their communities. Her research findings had a big impact on her and influenced her journey into wellness and prevention. She enrolled in one of the best Naturopathic Medical colleges in America, where she spent six years in medical school learning about the human body, pharmaceuticals, nutrition, wellness and prevention. She has continued her educational journey and wishes to serve her patients with her knowledge and skills. Her love for wellness and prevention led her into the world of integrative medicine where she works with other medical professionals to offer services that promote health in all her patients. Disclaimer: As with any health measure, medical or otherwise, there can be no guarantee that acupuncture will be the "missing link" that makes pregnancy happen, pain disappear, allergies subside, or any other sought after health benefit, possible. Acupuncture is not a substitute for medical care and while it has been and remains highly effective there is no one modality that works perfectly on everyone. The suggestions listed above are based on years of experience discovering the regularity with which the acupuncture treatments have been found to make the most difference for people. Because each person is unique, not everyone will respond the same way to treatment and the longer a person has had a given health condition the longer it generally takes to see improvement. As with any health measure, to see the benefit of it, a "quick-fix" mentality will not set a person up for success. Changing one's health does not happen overnight. For this reason we obviously recommend sticking with the treatment protocol mentioned above, yet for any packages of treatments purchased we can offer a refund for any remaining treatments not used if you have tried the program and feel your treatments are not as effective as desired. Note: the refund will be minus the difference paid for a package of treatment vs. the cost of pay-as-you-go treatments.
